VORTEX 2 Updates
I know you guys can't tell all the details but you can use this thread to keep us updated on any cool storms you were on or where you're hanging out during a ridge or whatever. Or maybe we can start a wager on how many times Sean/Brian eats Taco Bell in the next 5 weeks. I'm going with 87.
Good Luck!

Little low don't you think? I'd put it around 100.
I'll try and keep you up to date on things here, but no promises as I will be rather busy.

See ya'll are finally out in the field. Mike Bettes isn't really keeping things a secret. He was reporting live from "Custer Co." and that's the only location he said he could give. Interesting how he was talking about the target for tomorrow and discussing things like 06-km shear, CAPE, and cap like anyone on TWC knows what that is.
Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Having fun in my favorite place? Anyone staying at the fine Vagabond Inn Best Western?
Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Nope, the Ramada Convention Center. It's actually pretty lousy.
BTW, Taco Bell count is now up to 2. Haven't really had much of a chance to eat there yet.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
you do realize that The Weather Channel has jinxed the whole project right?
Someone please kick Mike Bettes' ass if ya'll see him around. Maybe just leave him on a back a country road in SoDak.

Nope, didn't catch the sheriff landspout. We were well to far north to catch that one, but we did get on the cell to the SW of it.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
well, enjoyed some FREE drinks this evening at the Ramada Inn at Topeka, KS. one whiskey coke and one boulevard wheat. sean and crew went to see a movie tonight. might go pay the extremely hot bartender another visit tonight. we shall see... people are getting excited about some good shear overlayed by some decent SBCAPE for tomorrow. probably headed somewhere in Iowa tomorrow.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Nice stuff Brandon.
I'll likley be heading up that way on Saturday and overnight it in maybe Omaha or somewhere near.
Chase Sun-Mon-Tues and then back home. Might be flying solo or with the old man. I'll give you guys a call if I'm up that way.
Good luck today. I'm betting on some photogenic sups in parts of Nebraska.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Ok, heading to Nebraska today. Going to play around with some great shear and low moisture, we'll see what happens but I'm not impressed. Likely down tomorrow, but will be operating again on Sunday somewhere in Nebraska again more than likely. As for early next week, no telling. Models keep changing around quite a bit.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Ya'll look to be a decent cell south of Bassett. Might be some nice structure I imagine. Tornado warned cell in So. Dakota right now.
Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Currently on the road just south of Topeka. Headed towards Omaha for the night. Will likely chase SD tomorrow unless something changes. I see that ya'll may not make it because of positioning for Monday. I see alot of possible targets for Monday.
Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
rumor has it that we might head east out of here for some storms and what not.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
"some storms and what not" nice! There's a zoo in Omaha if you get real bored.
Yea I see ya'll are going to play the small shortwave along the border of NE/KS making its way into se NE. I have been digging way to deep into the models this morning and not real convinced on any one spot. Right now we are in se SD hanging out. NAM likes down in se NE and if a storm can go then it might be nice. I figure I'll the play the target along the front for at least some more 'for-sure' coverage. RUC and some hi-res models paint a decent pic up here so we'll see.
Monday and Tuesday look pretty good as well with maybe a higher tornado threat.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
sleeping in Omaha for tonight. Got on a severe storm for a while which supposedly had quarters in it. everyone was real hesitant about deploying so no real good data was collected. tensions are very high among everyone here, it is getting rather frustrating. hopefully tomorrow will bring better luck.

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Good luck this upcoming weekend and beyond. I'll be out and about starting Thursday through Sunday at least....
Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Thanks.
I think we may have finally gotten over the drama of the mobile mesonet crew. Some people have been switched around in the probes and probes have been given different assignments. At times, it would have been interesting to see this all unfold again on video. It could have been called (Mobile Mesonet TV) MMTV The real world.
NAM and GFS show some good chasing opportunities for all the upcoming week and a half. I'd imagine people on storm track are all fired up, but I haven't really read anything... I might have to switch to video mode for the next few days since we cannot stop for pictures, due to the measurements on top of the vehicle. My goal is to see 5 more tornadoes before the end of the season. Let's hope I can achieve it...

Re: VORTEX 2 Updates
Actually, not much enthusiasm on Fri & Sat among the stormtrackers (and me) because of the Gulf tropical low bringing northerly flow at the sfc across much of the southern plains. Cap and moisture will be major issues but I figure its still worth the shot. I might be playing alot of post-frontal upslope stuff and hope the great shear will be enough. Still the best potential in a long time over the next week.
